Throughout our trip, I’ve been able to catch some beautiful pictures of sunrise, sunset and moon reflecting on the ocean.

It’s interesting to see the changes when the sun will rise or set depending where you are in the northern hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere and what time of year you are traveling. As we crossed the equator into the Southern Hemisphere and traveled the South Pacific, I noticed each night the sunset would be later as we traveled further south. By the time we were in New Zealand, the sun was setting when we were eating dinner. Mind you, we eat dinner late on the cruise. We are usually eating dinner around 8-9 pm. I don’t want to miss anything when we are traveling so late dinner is a good thing. Then we go to a show or out on deck to see the stars.

Last night (March 6), we had a lovely dinner, went to a show (Motown was excellent) and then out on deck around 10:45 pm. We are currently in Malaysia (traveling between Singapore and Thailand). We went out on deck and see green lights everywhere! What is this? Normally, we’re looking at a big ocean and rarely see a ship. Since we left Singapore, I’ve never seen so many ships. The green lights were a mystery, at first. Were they ships? No, too small. Fishing boats? Yes! Fishermen use the lights to attract plankton and fish, the preferred diet of commercially important squid. As the bait swims to the surface, the squid follow to feed and get caught by the fishermen. There are so many green lights in this area, it can be seen from space (International Space Station photos).

What a lovely evening out on deck watching all the green lights, hundreds of them, and the warm breeze blowing on a very calm sea.

Beautiful pics Karen
