I’ve never slept better than I have for the past 6 weeks. The bed on this ship is extremely comfortable. Maybe it’s the fresh air I thought. Truth be told, I sleep the best when the sea is rockin! I just love the motion at night and we’re in the very front of the ship so it’s less stable than mid-ship.
We are having a very busy week in New Zealand with day after day port calls. I have to catch up on blogging once we have sea days again. I write about our day and Bob has been extremely helpful in editing photos for the blog. The internet is very slow so it takes time to attach each one.
We were in Auckland on Monday with a sea day on Tuesday. The Princess Harmony Choir performed for the ship on Tuesday (and believe it or not, I was part of the choir). I have not been in choir since high school, so it’s been a few years. The choir director is from South Africa and very entertaining. A good time was had by all.
We have 4 more ports of call this week. We’ve had a very exciting week and just LOVE New Zealand. Definitely a place to come back, rent a car and take a road trip.
Two nights ago, we were going through Cook’s Strait on our way to Picton. We were sleeping nicely with the usual feel of motion from the ocean (haha). I guess my best description would be, a feel of free fall and then almost weightlessness. It’s so relaxing. Suddenly I noticed a change, not the usual feel that we’ve grown accustom to. Now it’s sort of an up, down, spin one way and back. O, now everything on the desk in our cabin goes shooting across the room and the closet door is swinging open and closing. Now this is interesting. We laughed about it the next morning and said apparently neither one of us were too concerned and thought it would have made a good video clip. Our friends mentioned the next morning that they had heard an announcement and thought it was a code because someone had fallen and needed assistance. I told Bob, at least it wasn’t – the ship is going down, put on your life jackets….because we apparently slept through it.
Back to ‘be careful what you wish for’…the Captain announced this evening that we have a change in our itinerary. Tropical Cyclone Uesi is currently tracking southward bringing with it high winds and heavy seas along the South Island and our planned path across the Tasman Sea. Ut-o! So, we’re going to miss Stewart Island, but they are adding Christchurch as a port. I’m not sure what the next few days will bring. I understand we’re going to head back to Cook Strait. We’ll find out if Cyclone Uesi is going to follow us or not. Either way, sounds like we’re going to have quite a ride. Should have packed a bungee cord to keep us in our bed.
On that note, Happy Valentine’s Day everyone 😉

You mention road trip. Do you miss driving? Stay anchored! Hopefully it won’t be as crazy a ride as it sounds it could be. Take care!
